It happens sometimes: you don’t want to love it, you kind of want to hate it and make sure it looks like you do. You want to stand above it, but the devil on your left shoulder whispers in your ear: ‘you cannot miss this’. And then you fall for it, become super excited and spread the word. This is how trends evolve, and it happened to me at Amada. You see, the first time I walked across their white hipster windows with my room-mate, I wanted to dislike it. It had the minimalist + rainbow details look (with just a slight focus on millennial pink), the industrial light bulbs, the trying-to-be-different quotes on the wall and the macramé plant hangers that seem to be essential in every 20 to 30 years old’s living room. The cherry on top is their concept called “selfieccino” which is exactly what it sounds like: a cappuccino with your face on top of it. Your face in your face, feeling the cringe? But then that curious little voice didn’t shut up for another week and I went back to try it out anyway. And it was actually a lot of fun. You make your picture, send it to the barista and enjoy the 10 second show of you getting printed on your own foam. Frankly, it is a hilarious experience to enjoy with a friend or with someone you want to get to know better. And once you’re settled inside, your back relaxing against a leaf green pillow, you start to understand why the hipster interior is so popular. The ambiance is fresh, it feels clean, there is light in your eyes which makes you feel awake and makes your coffee look brighter. The quotes on the wall suddenly seem smart and true and the next thing you’re posting it on the gram. Amada has a smart business concept and the value proposition is executed very well. On the menu you can find some classic cakes that taste as good as they look. Chocolate seems to have a special place in the heart of Amada as it covers half the menu. Furthermore, they have juices, ‘healthy’ options, a great variety of eggs and some very extra coffee specials. It may be a lot to take in, but it is all very well done. And if you follow the example of the person who uploaded this picture of his version of the selfieccino with his cute dog, your coffee experience will actually make the world a better place.

Joe for now,
