If you tell me you don't recognize the following, I envy you - or you're just lying. Imagine this. You're entering a café with crystal clear intentions: a macchiato... black americano.. maybe a foamy cappuccino. You step in line ready to order and than WHAM you get distracted. Love at first side: there is a tasting platter. The saucer on the counter is filled with chunky pieces of different sweets and all you can think about is how badly you want to try them all without being caught in the act. This is what happened to me at Tak For Kaffe and if the owner reads this post, I want to offer my sincere apology in advance.

Tak for Kaffe is an atmospheric, tiny hotspot on one of my favourite squares in Copenhagen's 'Indre By' (city centre). From the inside of the homy-but-trendy interior you look straight at the pretty Holy Spirit Church and the many trees surrounding her. On the outside are some steel benches with leafy green poofy pillows. There are candles on wooden squared tables, you sit on colourful Scandi chairs and the music is mellow. The coffee is great, really great - and as it is such a tiny place, it is practically made right in front of you. Like you can actually smell the transition from roasted beans into caramelized aroma's.

But those SWEETS. Like I said, I tried them all - the Hindbærsnitter (Danish raspberry slice), the carrot cake, the dark chocolate pie and the yum-yum banana cake. Lucky for me the barista was doing the dishes so she only came back after the ding-a-ling announced a new customer, whom I than cursed internally for interrupting my sweet robberies. I think I took 9 pieces in the hour I sat there. I didn't read a single page of my book. Ain't proud of it, just being honest.

If there is a heaven, Petrus might send me away when I arrive at the port. Oh well, at least I'll bring some inner sugar to the reign of fire.

Joe for now,

PS. I made a drawing of this café. Hope you like it! I always draw humans in the same happy, innocent style and call them Anna's Miladies. Find more of them on the illustrations page.
