Though I am one hundred percent content with my presearch-plan-pin strategy while visiting coffee cafés, I do love it when I encounter one spontaneously. One week ago, I paid a short visit to the German capital to meet my bookers and Ben Rahim happened to be literally 50 meters from the modelling agency. Quiet, inside a courtyard in the middle of this bursting, loud district of Berlin called “Mitte” (middle). The name refers to the owner who is Tunisian, a fact that is not abundantly clear judging from the interior of the place. It has that cool kid Berlino mood hanging in the air with its sharp squared tables and safe colour palette. One can find Islamic influences in the exquisite rugs on the counter, where a calm (and pretty handsome) barista prepared a perfect flat white for me. Sad as it is, I cannot grade the quality (read my last post), but learning from reviews of others I dare to state that it is very oké. Other happy things: the many plants are all non-cactus and the porcelain cups look extremely cute with their black lines all around.
Spaces give away the type of visitors they are supposed to attract. For Rahim with its tiny tables, this seems to be the solo traveller or sophisticated citizen who dares to drink his or her coffees alone. Indeed, I only saw singles sipping their coffees, which made me feel very at ease. Cause let’s be honest: it is uncomfortable to try diving deep into your book with a coffee when your entire surroundings consist of +1’s.
Yes it is, and Rahim stands up for all us individuals with a heart for coffee. We are no einzelgängers, we just really take the time and like to bring our awareness to each precious moment that involves roasted beans. Thanks for saving our reputation, Rahim.
Byee for now,
